Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea (PNG) Hon. James Marape has extended his appreciation to the people and the government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) for the donation of 45 tonnes (around 400,000) of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that arrived in Papua New Guinea this week. According to Mr. Marape, the donation was organized in partnership with the Government of China through its Embassy here in Port Moresby, the government through the Department of Health and UNICEF.

Hon. James Marape also thanked the flight crew of the national carrier, Air Niugini, for safely transporting the equipment to Papua New Guinea. However, Mr. Marape said as a part of our support to the fight against Covid-19, the same flight has assisted the people and Government of Solomon Islands to bring in 5000 surgical masks and 2000 medical disposal protective clothing from China.

The assistance in the form of 380 more GeneXpert Kits 12,000 rapid COVID-19 test kits has arrived in the country this morning from Australia by Royal Australian Air Force C27-J. According to Health Minister Jelta Wong, the medical supplies will be repacked and redistributed to provinces.
