October 9 to 12, 2021, the Maсlay Coast Festival was held in St. Petersburg, dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the outstanding Russian scientist and traveler N. N. Miklouho-Maclay and the 150th anniversary of his legendary expedition to New Guinea.
The festival was organized within the educational and outreach project “Miklouho-Maclay Online Museum” and intended to introduce the achievements of Russia in the field of exploration the South Seas in the XIX century and at the present stage.
Within the cultural and educational program of the Festival, the first in Russia Miklouho-Maclay Online Museum was presented.
Visitors of the Festival got acquainted with the exhibition “Maclay Coast”, the exposition of which included objects of material culture of the New Guinea Island, photographs and copies of drawings, as well as the “Maclay Coast” model layout construsted in accordance with archival materials.
The documentary “The Life and Travels of Miklouho-Maclay” was screened. It tells about the family, childhood and youth of the world-famous traveler, his expeditions, scientific research and their significance for world science and mankind.
