Almost per cent of Alotau’s district services improvement programme (DSIP) funds have been transferred to local businesses for infrastructure development, MP Charles Abel says. Abel said infrastructure was the biggest area which the district’s funds were spent on last year. He said the district also had its own small and medium enterprise programme that it supported and ran, with funding allocations annually.
Prime Minister James Marape said with regards to Wafi-Golpu they are in the business of eliminating the previously signed memorandum of understanding and are now tiding discussions with the provincial government and landowners and very soon Wafi-Golpu will be a project that is generating revenue and are hoping to bring that soon.
The three special mining lease (SML) landowner groups from the Wafi-Golpu project and pipeline landowners have received assistance from the Morobe provincial government for mobilisation purposes. Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu presented three troop carriers and K1.56 million to the landowners at Bavaga village in the Hengambu area.
