National Pandemic Response Controller of Papua New Guinea (PNG) David Manning urged the citizens to be careful and marked that peoples from all sorts of backgrounds are getting infected with COVID-19: « On Saturday, East Sepik reported for the first time three confirmed cases: two are lawyers while one is a plumber». East Sepik Province has become the 13th of 22 PNG provinces to report COVID-19. According to Mr. Manning, the symptoms of the COVID-19 included fever, cough, sore throat, tiredness, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing and some have muscle aches, chills, headache and chest pain. «In some instances, those with the Covid-19 do not have any symptom […] The only way to confirm the COVID-19 is to have a laboratory test, » Mr. David Manning said and added that the majority of the cases have also been mild and moderate. Currently, there have been a total of 507 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Papua New Guinea, including 270 active cases, 232 recovered cases, and 5 fatal cases.

One the major PNG mining companies Ok Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML) also recorded 8 new cases of COVID-19, all from Western Province. The company suspended its operations at the self-titled gold and copper deposit until September 14. [3]
