The Port Moresby General Hospital has received medical equipment and drugs from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Government worth US$49,500 (PGK173,144). This medical equipment was handed over to the hospital by representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Papua New Guinea (PNG) during a handover ceremony at the hospital. According to the Embassy’s Economic and Commercial Counselor Mr. Liu Linlin, the surgical equipment will be used for operations in urology, cardiothoracic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and anesthesiology. The donation also includes drugs used for oncology and devices for practicing Chinese acupuncture. [1]
The PGK200 million worth of cocaine seized by PNG Police in late July 2020, has been sent to Australia for proper analysis under the two countries’ Mutual Legal Assistance Framework on the basis that PNG doesn’t have the capacity and capability to properly analyse this important exhibit. [2]
The Australian Federal Police also gifted six vehicles to the NCD Criminal Investigation Division. [3]
United States Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu Erin McKee today formally handed over to the PNG National Museum and Gallery 133 cultural artifacts recovered from an illegal collection in the United States. The items were part of an extensive collection of artifacts gathered from around the world over several decades by Donald Miller, an amateur archeologist. After Miller admitted many of the items had been taken in violation of international antiquities laws, the FBI began the laborious task of returning them to their countries of origin. [4]
